Before Santa arrives
Tips for an extraordinary Santa visit
A few small things make a big difference to the photos, the entrance and the magic.

For every visit
- Keep Santa cool
Please don't place Santa's chair in front of a lit fireplace or other hot areas. Consider having a fan on where Santa will sit.
- Save him a parking spot
Nearby, but out of view of the guests.
- A sturdy chair without arms
He has been eating a lot of cookies lately. A straight-backed dining chair works fine. Leave a little room behind it for family photos.
- Cameras charged, window behind you
Avoid backlit backgrounds such as a daytime window or a plain white wall; they give poor pictures. A Christmas tree makes a lovely background.
- Gifts labelled and bag-sized
Labels that are easy to read, and Santa REALLY appreciates a helper who can call out the names. All gifts should fit in a 32-gallon bag Santa can carry; he is old, you know. If there are more, Santa may be able to bring an extra bag for a helper.
- Everyone arrives first
The entrance is one of the most important parts of the visit. Santa will call you 5–10 minutes before he arrives.
- No smoke, please
Santa quit his pipe years ago. Smoke makes his suit smell, and Mrs. Claus does not appreciate it.
- Payment in a card
If payment is due, place it in a Christmas card or a 'Letter to Santa' and hand it over at the end of the visit: “This is something we would like you to have.”
Large families, business parties & special events
- Plan his breaks
For longer visits, set aside a private place where Santa can take off his heavy coat, drink some cool water, and use a restroom.
- Appoint a line helper
Someone to manage the line so every child gets quality time with Santa.
- Wipes at the ready
A quick check for sticky hands and faces makes for much better pictures.
